Volunteering Positions

Confidence with Numbers Volunteer

Community Learning Programme

Support adult learners to build core numeracy skills for everyday life, in a relaxed, non-assessment based setting. Sessions focus on the kind of maths people actually need day to day, working out a budget, understanding a bill, filling in a form, rather than formal qualifications or exams. As with the rest of the Community Learning Programme, the approach is person-centred and confidence-building, meeting learners exactly where they are. No maths teaching background is required, just patience and a friendly, encouraging manner. This is a great role if you enjoy helping people get past the fear of numbers and feel a real sense of progress, and you'll gain hands-on experience in adult numeracy support and informal education along the way.

Deadline: Ongoing

Hours: Thursdays, 12:30pm - 2:00pm

Location: 108 Battersea High St

Min Commitment: Weekly for two terms (minimum)

Conversation Club

Community Learning Programme

Help adult learners who don't use English as their first language build confidence speaking and listening, in a friendly, informal group setting. This isn't about grammar drills or grades, it's about giving people the chance to practise everyday conversation, from small talk to more complex topics, in a space where mistakes are welcomed and progress is celebrated. Learners bring their own experiences, cultures and backgrounds into every session, so you'll learn just as much from them as they do from you. You don't need any teaching experience, just a warm, encouraging manner and genuine enjoyment of conversation. You'll come away with real experience in adult ESOL support and facilitating group conversation, alongside a genuine window into the lives and cultures of learners from across the community.

Deadline: Ongoing

Hours: Tuesdays, 12:30pm - 2:00pm

Location: 108 Battersea High St

Min Commitment: Weekly for two terms (minimum)

Reading and Writing Together

Community Learning Programme

Support adult learners who don't use English as their first language to build confidence with reading and writing, in a relaxed, person-centred setting. Sessions are practical and rooted in everyday life, learners might be reading a story they can later share with their children, filling in a form for the GP, or writing a letter of complaint, rather than working towards exams or assessments. Groups are split by level, from complete beginners through to more intermediate learners, so you'll be matched to a group that suits your experience. No teaching background is needed, just patience, warmth, and an interest in helping people build skills that make a real difference to daily life. Along the way you'll gain experience in adult ESOL and informal education, and a close-up understanding of what person-centred learning support looks like in practice.
